Find The Needle Demo Unlock Height: The Confirmed Facts

No official unlock height has been published for the Find The Needle demo.

Quick Answer

No official unlock height has been published for the Find The Needle demo. The developer's Steam pages and patch notes do not list one, and community guides do not agree on a number, so we do not quote one here. If an in-game tooltip shows a height requirement in your build, that tooltip is the number to trust.

What is confirmed is how height works around the pile: Demo V8 raised the default jump height, you choose the pile size at the start, and the metal detector only reaches a few meters. This page explains each of those so you can reach the needles deep in the haystack.

Why There Is No Confirmed Number

We checked the official Steam store pages, the developer's Steam announcements and several community guides. None of them gives a verified unlock height for the demo. Some community pages even state outright that they do not cover unlock heights.

The demo is also updated often, and values change between builds. A number copied from an old video may no longer match your game. For that reason we only list what the official sources confirm.

Jump Height Was Raised in Demo V8

The Demo V8 patch notes, posted by the developer on September 11, 2026, include higher jump height by default. That makes it easier to climb onto machines, belts and the edge of the pile. It is the only official change to player height we could confirm.

Players also use belts and machines as steps. In one playthrough a player walked up a conveyor like a travelator to reach a higher part of the pile. Platforms and staircases around the haystack appear in trailer footage too.

Pile Size Decides How High You Need to Go

At the start of a demo run you choose a small, medium or large pile, and the game recommends medium. A bigger pile is both wider and taller. The higher the pile, the more hay sits between you and a needle near the center.

If you only want to explore the systems, the small pile keeps everything within easy reach. On medium and large, plan to lower the pile with machines before you hunt the deep needles.

Metal Detector Range and Deep Needles

The metal detector beeps when a needle is in range. In gameplay footage its radius starts at about 7 meters and can be upgraded to about 8.3 meters. Needles buried deeper than that will not show up from the edge.

One player found no signal anywhere around the outside of a medium pile. Only after the pile was lowered and they climbed higher did the detector pick up a needle. Lowering the pile is the reliable way to reach needles near the middle.

  • Lower the pile with rakes, robotic arms and drones.
  • Climb onto the pile or a belt and sweep with the detector.
  • Upgrade the detector range in the tech tree.
  • Add belt scanners so needles are flagged as hay is removed.

Lowering the Pile Faster

The fastest way to reach deep needles is a stronger factory. Robotic arms, rakes and drones remove hay from the outside in, and each upgrade speeds that up. Read our automation setup guide for the build order.

Move your collectors inward as the pile shrinks so they keep hay in reach. Drones need to sit on the floor and dig up to 12 meters away, according to the community wiki.

Tips for Reaching High Spots

If you need to get higher on the pile, use the tools the game gives you. The higher default jump from V8 helps, and belts can act as steps. Platforms and staircases can also be built around the hay pile.

  • Jump onto the edge of the pile and climb in short steps.
  • Use a conveyor as a ramp to reach higher hay.
  • Build platforms or stairs next to the pile.
  • Lower the pile with machines so you need less height.

Machine Reach Around the Pile

Height also matters for your machines, not just for you. Drones dig up to 12 meters away and must sit on the floor, according to the community wiki. Rakes throw hay a set distance that you adjust in each machine.

As the pile shrinks, machines placed at the old edge lose hay in range. Move them inward so they keep working while you hunt the deep needles.

Height and Future Updates

The demo has changed many times since launch, and the full game enters Early Access on November 6, 2026. Values tied to height, range and unlocks may change again. Always check the tooltip in your current build.

Read the latest patch notes to see what changed in each update. Steam installs every demo patch automatically.

How to Check the Value in Your Own Build

If your demo shows a height or level gate, hover over it in the tech tree or build menu to read the exact requirement. Tooltips always match the build you are playing. That is more reliable than any number posted online.

You can also ask in the official Discord, linked from the developer's Steam announcements. We will add a number to this page only when it can be confirmed from official sources.

Frequently Asked Questions

What is the unlock height in the Find The Needle demo?

No official figure has been published. Check the tooltip in your own build, since values can change between demo updates.

Did an update change jump height?

Yes. Demo V8 added a higher jump height by default.

Why can't my metal detector find needles?

Its range is only a few meters, so needles deep in the pile do not register until you lower the pile or get closer.

How do I reach needles in the middle of the pile?

Lower the pile with rakes, arms and drones, then climb on top and sweep with the metal detector.

Can I build stairs around the pile?

Yes. Platforms and staircases can be built around the haystack.

Does pile size affect how high I need to climb?

Yes. Bigger piles are taller, so more hay sits above the needles near the center.

Can I upgrade the metal detector range?

Yes. In gameplay footage it starts at about 7 meters and can be upgraded to about 8.3 meters.
